Subscriptions & Payments
A. Subscription Plans

Paid Tier (Shops): Currently free during launch

B. Billing & Cancellation
Auto-Renewal: If a paid subscription tier is introduced in the future, it will auto-renew on a monthly basis unless canceled. Your payment method will be charged automatically.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription anytime through account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. No refund for unused portions of the current month.
Failed Payments: If payment fails, we will attempt to re-bill you. If payment fails for 3 consecutive cycles, your account will be suspended until payment is resolved.
C. Payment Processing
Payments are processed securely by Stripe, our PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. By providing payment information, you authorize Stripe to store your payment method and process charges on your behalf. ChairUp never receives or stores your full card number, CVV, or other sensitive card data — we only retain a secure token from Stripe along with non-sensitive metadata (such as card brand and last 4 digits) for display and reconciliation purposes.
D. Transaction Fees (Charged to Barbers)
In addition to the chair rent, barbers pay the following transaction fees on every rental payment:
- Payment processing fee: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, passed through from Stripe.
- Marketplace fee: 5% of the rent amount, paid to ChairUp.
Example: $300 rent = $300 rent + $8.70 processing + $15 marketplace = $323.70 charged to the barber.
For Shops: You receive 100% of the rent amount — no processing fee, no marketplace fee, and no platform commission is deducted from the rent. The transaction fees above are paid entirely by the barber.
Refund Policy
All chair rental payments made through ChairUp are subject to the following refund terms:
A. Eligibility for Refunds
Refunds may be granted for:
- Booking Canceled by Shop: If a shop cancels a confirmed booking after acceptance, the barber is entitled to a full refund of all fees paid, including the no-show hold if applicable.
- Double Booking or Listing Error: If a shop accepts a booking for a chair that is no longer available due to a listing error, the barber receives a full refund.
- Platform Error: If a payment error occurs due to a ChairUp system malfunction (e.g., duplicate charge, incorrect amount), the overcharge will be refunded.
- Dispute Resolution: If a transaction dispute is resolved in the barber's favor, the disputed amount will be refunded to the barber.
B. Non-Refundable Situations
Refunds will NOT be granted for:
- Barber no-shows where the barber failed to check in or cancel before the deadline
- Cancellations made by the barber after the free cancellation window has passed
- Change of mind after a booking has been accepted and payment authorized
- Subscription fees for the current billing cycle (cancellations stop future charges only)
C. Refund Process
Refund requests must be submitted through the Platform's dispute flow or by emailing contact@chairfill.io within 14 days of the transaction. Approved refunds are processed to the original payment method within 5-10 business days. Processing times may vary based on the barber's bank or card issuer.
D. Partial Refunds
In cases where a barber checks in but the shop fails to provide the agreed chair or workspace, the barber may be eligible for a prorated or full refund at ChairUp's discretion.
No-Show Fee Policy
ChairUp enforces a strict no-show policy to protect shops from lost revenue due to ghost bookings.
A. No-Show Fee Amount
A $50 no-show fee is automatically charged to the barber when all of the following conditions are met:
- The shop has accepted the barber's booking application
- The barber has not checked in by the agreed start time
- The barber has not canceled the booking within the free cancellation window (24 hours before the start time)
B. Authorization & Collection
When a shop accepts a booking, ChairUp authorizes (places a hold on) the barber's payment method for at least the $50 no-show fee amount. If the authorization fails, the booking cannot be confirmed. If the barber checks in on time or cancels before the deadline, the hold is released and no fee is charged.
C. Fee Distribution
The full $50 no-show fee is paid to the affected shop. ChairUp does not deduct any portion of the no-show fee. The shop receives the full $50 as compensation for the lost chair time.
D. Barber Acknowledgment
Barbers must acknowledge the no-show policy during onboarding. By accepting a booking, barbers reaffirm their understanding that ghosting a confirmed booking results in a $50 charge paid directly to the shop.
E. Disputes
No-show charges may be disputed through the Platform's existing transaction dispute flow. The burden of proof lies with the barber to demonstrate that a valid check-in occurred or that the cancellation was timely.
Payment Flow, Balances & Withdrawals
ChairUp processes all chair rent payments through Stripe Connect. This section explains how money moves between barbers, shops, and the Platform.
A. How Payments Move
- Application: A barber applies to a chair listing using a saved payment method (credit card or bank account).
- Acceptance & Authorization: When a shop accepts the application, ChairUp places an authorization hold on the barber's payment method for the $50 no-show fee. If the hold fails, the booking cannot confirm.
- Check-In & Capture: When the barber checks in at the shop, the no-show hold is released and the full rent amount is captured from the barber's payment method.
- Escrow: Captured rent is held in escrow for the duration of the rental period (1 day, 7 days, or 30 days depending on the listing's rate period), starting from the barber's check-in time.
- Release to Shop Balance: Once the escrow period ends without a dispute, the full rent amount is released into the shop's ChairUp balance as Available funds.
B. Fees Charged to the Barber
On top of the rent amount, barbers pay:
- Payment processing fee: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, passed through from Stripe.
- Marketplace fee: 5% of the rent amount, paid to ChairUp.
Example: $300 rent = $300 rent + $8.70 processing + $15 marketplace = $323.70 charged to the barber.
C. Shop Balance
Every shop has a ChairUp balance with four buckets:
- Pending: Authorized but not yet captured (barber has not checked in).
- Locked in Escrow: Captured funds being held until the escrow period ends.
- Available: Funds released from escrow and ready to withdraw.
- Disputed: Funds frozen pending admin resolution of an open dispute.
Shops receive 100% of the rent amount — no processing fee, no marketplace fee, and no platform commission is deducted from the rent. Collected no-show fees also flow into the Available balance.
D. Withdrawals
- Minimum withdrawal: $50. Requests below this amount cannot be submitted.
- No withdrawal fees: ChairUp does not charge a fee to move funds from your Available balance to your connected bank account.
- Connected bank required: Shops must complete Stripe Connect onboarding (bank account, identity verification) before requesting a withdrawal. Shops do not need a bank connected to receive applications — only to cash out.
- Processing time: Withdrawals are sent through Stripe automatic payouts and typically arrive in 1–3 business days, depending on your bank.
- Only Available funds: Pending, Locked, and Disputed balances are not withdrawable.
E. Disputes & Frozen Funds
Either party may open a dispute on any transaction from the transaction history. Opening a dispute moves the funds from Available (or Locked) into the Disputed bucket and prevents withdrawal until a ChairUp admin resolves the case. Admin may release funds to the shop or refund the barber based on the evidence provided.
Off-Platform Transactions
A. Prohibition
All chair rental agreements, payments, and communications initiated through ChairUp must remain on the Platform. Users are strictly prohibited from:
- Soliciting or accepting payments outside of ChairUp's payment system
- Arranging chair rentals off-platform to avoid fees
- Sharing personal payment details (Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, PayPal, etc.) to bypass Platform processing
- Directing other users to communicate or transact outside of ChairUp
B. Consequences
Violating the off-platform transaction policy will result in a permanent ban from ChairUp. This includes:
- First offense: Formal warning logged to your account and reported to ChairUp admins
- Second offense: Immediate, permanent account termination with no refund of subscription, listing, or any other fees paid
- Permanent prohibition from re-registering under any name, email, or identity
- Forfeiture of any pending balances or payouts
- Potential legal action for fraud or breach of contract
Automated monitoring. ChairUp actively scans all in-app messages for mentions of off-platform payment methods (including but not limited to Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, "cash only," and similar terms). Detected messages are automatically logged, the sender is shown a warning, and ChairUp administrators are notified for review. Note: sharing of contact information such as phone numbers, email addresses, and social media handles is permitted and not subject to this monitoring.
C. Reporting
If you are asked to pay or accept payment outside of ChairUp, report it immediately to contact@chairfill.io. Users who report off-platform solicitation in good faith will not be penalized.
Chair Rentals & Marketplace Transactions
Important: ChairUp is a marketplace that facilitates connections between barbers and shops and processes chair rent payments through Stripe Connect. ChairUp does NOT:
